Topic: M1 The Vehicle
Date: September 25 2021
What I learned from this class:
  • before you get in the vehicle, you should do a visual scan to make sure the tires are well inflated, check that there is nothing blocking the exhaust pipe, make sure the lights are not broken.
  • Always enter the vehicle from the front (facing oncoming traffic).
  • The tire pressure information is on a sticker on the driver side door.
  • It’s a good idea to get the winter tires installed at the beginning of November (the law says they need to be installed by Dec 1st)
Students feedback: Thank you for doing the lesson even though you aren’t feeling well. I really appreciated the lesson. I hope you feel better soon :)

Topic: M-6 Accompanied Driving
Date: Wednesday, September 22, 2021

What I learned from this class:
  • The more you anticipate from top to bottom and from left to right the more the chances of you being able to anticipating all signs and lights
  • Single vehicle accidents are due to the chances of increase in speed and not anticipating changes in a monotone environment
  • Flash Red: everyone STOP
  • Flash Yellow: caution and if someone is crossing at the intersection then STOP
  • Flash Green: All directions have a red light except for you, and you can go straight or turn
  • We must look at the dashboard to make sure we are giving the correct sign.
  • Once you reach the stop sign then stop and look left, right, and left before progressing again
Students feedback: The class was very instructive. Specifically, the part where the instructor showed images and videos of accidents that can take place if we are not properly stopping at the red light or are not attentive when starting the car.

"Student Full Name: Bianca JonesTopic: M-12 Eco-Driving
Date: July 8th, 2021

What I learned from this class:
- when completing a right turn, you must be going 10-15 km/h. When completing a left turn, you must be going 10 km/h
- eco driving includes maintaining a constant speed while following speed limit, smooth acceleration/deceleration, safe driving, comfort
- eco-driving reduces fuel consumption, reduces the negative impact on the environment and reduces carbon footprint
- Must do a monthly check of tire pressure (PSI), written on sticker on the door of the driver
- reduce speed earlier to have better eco-driving
- do not idle for more than 60 seconds
- Always use same category of gas, there are 3 choices (cheaper to more expensive)
- Check brake pads when getting tires changed (around twice a year)
-move-over law: for tow trucks, emergency vehicles, surveillance vehicles, if stopped on road and have yellow flashing, rotating, or arrow sign lights. Police vehicles, ambulances, fire trucks, transport Quebec vehicles also need to be respected by this law.
- on a hill, turn wheels for safety
Students feedback: The classes thus far have taught me how to be a responsible and safe driver, and I believe to have acquired enough information and knowledge to drive safely in the future. The in-car sessions have also been very useful and have helped me build confidence on the road.

Student Full Name: Salha Hemed
Topic: Module 12 – Eco-Driving
Date: 2021-07-08
What I learned from this class:
In today’s class we first had a review about the steps we must take before turning and changing lane. After that we learned about eco-driving which is a way of driving that is ecological, economical and respectful of road safety conducts. In order to adopt an eco-driving, you have to:
  • Maintain speed
  • Reduce fuel consumption
  • Reduce environmental impact
  • Take account of technological progress
  • Foster road safety
  • Consider the physical reality such as rolling resistance, aerodynamic resistance, Acceleration resistance
    • Choose an appropriate vehicle
    • Adjust tire pressure monthly
    • Eliminate unnecessary weight in the car
The advantages of eco-driving include:
  • Safer driving because of the better anticipation of traffic and calmer driving
  • Comfort for the driver and the passengers since there is less stress and fewer acceleration
Students feedback: I like how in the beginning of the class we review what we discussed in previous classes. Also, everyone questions are answered clearly.

Student Full Name: Vhea Joy Paderanga :  Topic: Accompanied Driving: Date: July 6, 2021
What I learned from this class:
I learned the different worst behaviors that both learner driver and accompanying driver should not have. Also, I learned how to do hand over hand technique and chin over the shoulder to check the blind spot technique. Lastly, it is very important to check the dashboard to what type of maneuver is displayed (R or D) before removing the foot on the brake pedal.
Students feedback: As in other classes, Mr. Rashid made sure all his students participate and share their answers with the class. The additional videos and photos are very informative.

Topic: At risk Behaviour
Date: May 8, 2021
What I learned from this class:
I learned different risks not to look in the back seat while you’re driving.
You can’t drink and drive.
Never take any risks while driving no matter what because it can cause an accident while you are on the road.
Always make room if you hear the police siren or the fire truck siren and make sure you move out the way.
Make sure you are fully concentrated and not stressed while you are on the road.
 Students feedback:
My first driving school lesson was good.
The teacher was really good and I would recommend this school to other people.

Student Full Name: Karina Perez Marin
Topic: ECO-DRIVING
Date:2021-05-10
What I learned from this class: We learned tips and tricks for the knowledge and road tests from other students, it is important to study traffic signs and to check rear-view mirror constantly.
Before making a turn, you have to always signal; you should signal at least 3 to 4 houses before turning.
When you stop, don’t forget to look left, right left, then check blind spot and after your turn rear-view mirror again.
When you change lane, don’t forget to look at the rear-view mirror, then signal, then look at the side mirror, then the blind spot, go to that lane, look at rear-view mirror, and finally turn off the signal.
Eco driving is: reduce the environment impact, saving resources, avoid destroying the atmosphere, stop climate change with the way we drive, breaking carefully to save fuel. You can also choose a hybrid vehicle that reduces carbon monoxide, because it is electric and charges instead of using fuel. Eco driving is part of the road test.
City driving uses more gasoline than highway driving because in the city you have to stop more, change speed, etc. whereas in the highway you keep the same speed and make less changes. So, you have to chose the right vehicle according to fuel consumption and eco driving. Also, some aspects of the car can make you spend more money because of fuel consumption. So that is important when buying a car.
Check tire pressure at least once a month. To know the PSI, open the door of the car and check the label that says how much weight the car can handle, the maximum pressure, tire size. This is important when buying winter/summer tires. It is essential to buy the right size. In addition, the more you know your car, the more you are safe.

Acceleration resistance: Eliminate, reduce and recover. Avoid starting the car at a high speed because you will fail the road test. In the winter, use a block heater (2 hours before hitting the road). When you start the car, make sure there is no ice in the mirrors, front and back, otherwise you can get a ticket and it can be dangerous. Another important thing to watch out during the winter is carbon monoxide intoxication, so before entering the vehicle it is important to clean the excess pipe, turn on the car, leave it open and put heating system. Also, in the winter, you have to be careful with the ice and snow because they can make the road slippery and dangerous. It is important to reduce the speed limit, to not to accelerate when the road is icy or slippery, like when there is a snow storm, because it can cause accidents and death.
In general there is 3 types of gasoline 87, 89 and 91… you can’t mix them. For example, if you use 87, you have to keep using 87.
Safer driving, anticipate danger, like people don’t respecting rules and other users of the road like children, calmer driving and more predictable driver behavior.
We also learned that it is important to move over when you see an emergency car flashing its lights, like police cars, ambulances, fire trucks coming your way, it is the law to move over, otherwise you can get a fine 200$ or 300$ and lose 4 demerit points.
Mr. Rashid emphasized that not giving the right of way to other users can also make you lose points. You have to be careful because you start with only 4 points with your learner’s license.

Students feedback: It is very nice that Mr. Rashid gives us tips for the road and knowledge tests. He also asks other students who already took the tests to give advice to other students in the same class, which I find great because it helps the other students.

What I learned from this class:
Driving notes:
- Always clear exhaust pipe
- Tire pressure is written in a sticker at the door joint on the driver side (check pressure once a
month)
- Level headrest higher than the head (otherwise risk behaviour)
- Smoking while driving is a risk behaviour
- Writing with one hand is failure
- Children less than 63 cm must ride on a child safety seat
- Always stay one meter away from a parked car. This avoids collisions with opening doors
Seat belt:
- No wearing it will cost 3 points of the license
- You can apply to be exempt from wearing a seatbelt under the precedes of a medical condition
- The number of passengers should never exceed the number of available seatbelts in the car
- Pregnant women should also use seatbelt
Tires:
- From Dec 1st until march 15: winter tires must be used, otherwise we could get a fine of $277
- Change tires by November 1st in order to minimize risks (in Quebec it starts snowing early)
- Make sure mechanics tighten up your tires properly before you leave! (Ask for a receipt)

Airbags:
- More airbags = more protection
Visibility:
- Increase field of vision by decreasing speed (inversely proportional)
Part of road test for ECO driving:  Gradual acceleration and deceleration, Constant speed, Maintenance of safety margins
Students  feedback:

- Very fun and interactive
- I like that the teacher shares practical tips to keep us safe
- Good dynamics that keep us involved
